Customize Archival/Category Pages
Archival pages refer to the template/layout that is returned when a reader clicks on a category. For example, in this demo of the Hayes theme, the "Beauty" category returns the Classic Feed layout.
This article describes how you can change this layout.
Changing the layout of an archival page in BARTON, Pearl and Hayes:
1. Navigate to Appearance > Customize > Blog Feed Options.
2. Next, click on Blog Archives Options. Then, use the radio buttons to select your desired layout. You may find it helpful to click to one of your category/archive pages in the Customizer live preview, so you can see how the layouts change. This will help you pick your favorite!
The short video below shows you how to change these options in Hayes. It will look similar in Barton. Note that Pearl's archival layouts differ slightly. Here is a description of the layout options in each theme:
In Hayes and Barton:
- Classic Feed features smaller blog post summaries, as well as an optional sidebar (choose whether the sidebar appears on the left, right, or not at all).
- Classic (Large) feed features larger featured images atop blog post summaries, as well as an optional sidebar (choose whether the sidebar appears on the left, right, or not at all).
- Featured Feed showcases a featured image on the left, with post summary on the right, with the entire post container spanning the full width of the Home Page column.
- Grid Feed showcases tiles of posts.
In Pearl:
- Classic Feed features smaller blog post summaries, as well as an optional sidebar (choose whether the sidebar appears on the left, right, or not at all).
- Offset Feed showcases an alternating featured image on the right and left, with post summary on the opposite side.
- Grid Feed features a dual-column layout of posts, with small featured image thumbnail on the left, and post titles on the right. You can opt to include the comment count and date by navigating to Post and Page Display Options from the main Customizer menu.
