Introduction to the Site Editor

The Laguna theme is what's called a block theme and uses the new WordPress site editor.

To edit your theme, go to Appearance > Editor -- this is where you will be doing the majority of editing of your main site elements and templates.

Navigation

First you have navigation, and this will show you all of your navigation menus in one place.

Its handy for seeing what your menus are and quickly editing them. But I prefer to edit those menus within the page templates themselves because then you actually see what the menu looks like.

For example, if you click into the Footer menu you are just going to see the links that are there.

This is just a good place to keep your navigation menus organized.

You can click the three dots when you click into any menu if you want to rename, duplicate, or delete the menu.

Styles

This is where you'll set all of the aesthetic choices for your blog. So this has all of your typography options, your colors, and the layout option is going to be the width of the main content area. If you find that you want to make the whole site a little bit wider, this is where you would do that.

Pages

You can edit any of the pages directly in the site editor, or you can go to the pages section of your site and edit them there as well. The nice thing about editing pages in this space is that you can see the page in the context of your whole site - so you'll be able to see what it looks like with the header and the footer as well.

Templates

This is the only place you can edit templates for your site. Templates are going to be things like your front/home page, your blog page, and also any category archives. This is also where you customize pages that don't show up in your pages section, such as your 404 page. You can also customize what your single post page looks like. This also has where you can customize what your search results look like as well.

Patterns

This is going to be all the block patterns that are available within the theme as well as any you create on your own, as well as the template parts for the theme. The template parts are essentially patterns that are used and reused throughout your site.
